Huey P. Newton (1942-1989) was an African American political activist co-founder of the Black Panther Party. Newton played a key role in the Black Power movement, advocating for self-defense and community control. He was a charismatic speaker and wrote the Party's Ten-Point Program, which defined their beliefs and goals. Despite numerous legal battles and imprisonment, he remained an influential figure until his death in a violent confrontation.
